Vic Goldberg was the president of two IBM divisions, an IBM vice president and the leader of the company's corporate communications organization.
The following is the text of a corporate biography published in March 1993.
Victor J. Goldberg, IBM vice president, management systems-US, joined the company in 1959 as a sales trainee in New York.
Mr. Goldberg advanced through various marketing and staff positions, was named district sales manager in 1970, and executive assistant to the IBM chairman of the board in 1971.
After a number of management assignments in the product development area, he was named IBM director of business plans in April 1977. He was appointed IBM director of communications in August 1978 and was elected an IBM vice president in March 1979. He was named president of the Communication Products Division in October 1981. He was named president of the National Distribution Division in November 1983. He was named assistant group executive, market development, for the former Information Systems Group, now the U.S. Marketing and Services Group, in May 1986. He was named to his present position in February 1988.
Mr. Goldberg holds B.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Northwestern University. He is vice chairman of the board of trustees of the Institute of International Education and a member of its executive committee, a trustee of the Mental Health Association of Westchester, and commissioner of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum.
Mr. Goldberg retired from IBM on March 30, 1993.
